Visualization & Modeling

To help business and IT customers analyze and communicate their IT needs, RGI employs a visualization-based approach to project planning and requirements definition. Visualization, unlike traditional specification-based methods, uses simulations that allow project teams and business users to "test drive" requirements before expending time and money in developing code. This application of collaborative design and visualization tools to build and share simulations provides a fully immersive experience that significantly improves understanding of requirements.

As an emerging best practice for developing business software in commercial enterprises requirements visualization has shown significant promise in government enterprises like the Department of Homeland Security, IRS and VA. Application simulations can be developed collaboratively by business users, often in one or two brief modeling sessions. By giving users immediate feedback on requirements, visualizations help users achieve clarity about their needs before significant time and money is invested in detailing requirements and producing code. Commercial enterprises using requirements visualization have reported reductions in both time required to deliver software and in typical IT project costs.
